Proposals are being invited for inclusion in an important project: the second
edition of The Change Handbook: Group Methods for Shaping the Future to be
published by Berrett-Koehler and co-edited by Peggy Holman
(pe...@opencirclecompany.com), Tom Devane (t...@tomdevane.com) , and Steve Cady
(st...@stevecady.com). Based on the highly successful first edition of the
book, this new edition will be a reference book for leaders, change agents, and
students of change. The methods included in this book have emerged in recent
years as the leading means to meet the changing nature of change for
organizations and communities. Please pass this Call for Proposals on to
anyone who may be interested. The Call for Proposals and Proposal Instructions
may be found at http://www.stevecady.com/change_handbook.htm.
We are looking for methods to include that foster a systemic perspective,
involve workforce participation, and generally involve groups of people coming
together for the emergence of collective plans, decisions, and action. If you
have created a methodology that contributes to the theory and practice of
systemic participative change, we invite you to send us a proposal. If
selected, you will write a section on your method, provide information for a
comparative matrix, and furnish reference information for the reader who wishes
to learn more about your work. We will also be addressing effectiveness and
sustainability of methods and will be asking you to provide additional
information to help us address this topic. We currently anticipate that no
chapter will exceed 5,000 words, and some entries will be shorter.

The objective of this project is to update The Change Handbook so that it
continues to be a convenient, readable, accurate one-stop reference guide for
people who are considering systematic organizational or community change. This
book addresses the "what is it" of each change method, not "how to do it." Its
purpose is to help the reader determine which approaches might fit their
situation and guide them to other sources for more detailed information. The
book is intended to answer questions such as:

a.. What methods are available that have proven successful in addressing
today's needs for organizational or community change?
b.. What are the key distinctions among the methods?
c.. How do I know if a method would be a good fit for my organization or
community?
d.. How do I get started after I select one or more methods?

This book is unique because it provides acknowledged experts' experiences with
methods being employed successfully today. This is an opportunity for you to
state what you believe needs to be known about your approach to change. People
who read the book will understand the work based on your description, and will
have an opportunity to compare it to other change methods they are considering.

Please review the attached The Change Handbook (THC) Proposal Instructions to
determine if you are interested. If you would like to invite a co-author(s)
for your section please feel free to do so. Details of the proposal process
and contact information for the three editors are included in the attachment.
Thanks in advance for considering this important project!

Very Truly Yours,

Peggy Holman, Tom Devane, & Steve Cady
