Hi Tree,
The tiny url is only for the purpose of clicking on in an email...it
takes one to the same whole url for bookmarking or other purposes. If
the tinyurl is both preceded and succeeded by plenty of information
about the destination website, it's usually not too confusing.
I'm not that technologically adept, though I work with a lot of
technical folks, and it took me over a year to figure out what the
tinyurls were. However, I was happily clicking on them right along.
Oftentimes when an URL is so long it breaks over two lines, only the
first part turns "blue" so the link doesn't work. That's when a tinyurl
can be useful. If the URL is short enough to fit on one line, then the
normal URL works fine.
Of course, there's no law that says anyone has to use one ever. :-)
We're in Open Space, whatever works is the only thing that could. LOL
Also, of course, the world still needs you. Where else would we find
another like you?
Peace!
Diana

Diana, I am sure tinyurls seem like a good thing to most folks but I
find it confusing.
Using your example, http://www.openspaceworld.org/network/wiki.cgi
makes sense to me. It has meaning for me. Whereas
http://tinyurl.com/c6aj2 is meaningless -- hence confusing -- to me.
I have been feeling more and more like technology is leaving me behind.
And, yet, I dare to believe the world needs me.
Warmly,
Tree Fitzpatrick
