Hi Pat,

I would LOVE to learn more about the ensemble. How do they use OS to develop their performances?

I am more and more convinced that the arts are essential to shifting hearts and minds because they carry meaning in a way that words alone rarely do. We are so trained to hear on the channel of the mind/understanding. It isn't enough! Sensing with heart, spirit, and no doubt other ways is as important. The arts help with that, methinks.

Peggy

Hi Peggy
How funny to read your post. The Ways Ensemble does use Open Space to
develop their performance work. The just had performances for a new
piece of work called A Disease Called Freedom this past week. They
are based her in Minneapolis. My husband Steve is the drummer in the
group. There are 10 people in the ensemble right now and they include
dancers story tellers, spoken word poets, a visual artist working with
projected images and musicians.

Hi Harrison!

Your message ties two themes currently under discussion on this
list together for me: the arts and strategic planning. That's because it
was a strategic plan that I was working on with the Washington State Arts
Commission (see

This topic seems "up" at the moment. I was just in a conversation last
week with Wendy Morris, who works at the intersection of arts and process.
She told me of a group that has been using OS at the heart of their
performance work for years. They're called The Ways Ensemble. Here's
something on their latest work:

Good Show Chris and all the rest of the folks. Following along in the
footsteps of Phelim McD! Seems to me that we must be generating quite a body
of knowledge about OS in the Arts Community. Not all that long ago, Peggy
Holman was working with the Arts Councils in Washington State, and I am sure
there are others. It would be really interesting to pull some of that
together.

Colleagues:

I have just now opened space for 120 or artists and community arts
practitioners here in Vancouver at an event called "Live in Public: the art
of engagement." There are many sessions underway at th emoment and the
harvest will be added to the incredibly active online space, which has taken
the form of a tea party, buzzing in cyberspace.

Please join us today and for the rest of the conference tomorrow if that
sort of thing interests you. And if not, you might want to take a look at
how the organizers of this conference are using Open Space and social
networking to generate a great buzz. the energy in the room is alive and
the online conversation is hot too.

Here's the site: http://islandsinstitute.ning.com/ Enjoy!

Cheers,

Chris
