I make it a standard practice not ever to accept connections with any site that "offers" to send out anything to all my email contacts or social networking site contacts. And I agree with Kari that backing up on a different hard drive is always good practice. Perhaps every listerserve or social networking site should see it as part of their internet social responsibility regularly to post an update to members who may not be familiar with them, some set of standards of practice and etiquette on the internet. This would save all of us lots of trouble.
