there is some science on this... not that we need the science to experience it 
but it makes interesting reading and helps understand why what we do is so 
important. Knowing how it works is always useful.You can find it on the 
HeartMath web site - www.heartmath.org. 

I have been practising 'coherence' for years now and I can say without a doubt 
it has improved my 'presence' enormously and my ability to hold a safe space 
and deal with sideswipes and crises with equanimity! My training partner makes 
a joke of it by asking me where on the crisis scale we are. 9 and below he 
feels totally OK! This generally happens when we are travelling and something 
goes really wrong with flights etc.
