Frauke

like others here on the listserve I am not comfortable with new principles such
as 'try not to be cynical', 'try not to be critical'. In the kind of work we do
I find that people are generally in those spaces almost by definition and we
might accept them where they are, encourage them to express their views, create
the space to address their concerns and build understanding so that they have
the chance change their minds or see a way through.

I like this definition of a cynic: a disappointed optimist! And the antidote to
disappointment is new hope and a plan of action. Open Space Technology provides
the opportunity for that to emerge if it is going to. I am not sure we should
build in a resistance to the expression of concerns which is likely to be
cynical and critical in tone.

kind regards
Amanda
