A friendly reminder…
Our Open Space experiment— <http://www.bit.ly/ostonline2> Online Dialogue and Deliberation: What Is Possible Now?—is coming up on Weds, Dec. 19th from 1-3pm Eastern/10am-12pm Pacific/6-8pm GMT. Click here to register and see below for the original invitation. We’re already getting started asynchronously on our “Hackpads” ( <http://www.bit.ly/ostonline1> click here for access) with introductions, questions about the process and initial thoughts. Sixty four people are currently registered for the call. This engagement is intended to be a fun and valuable exploration into the general subject of online D&D, as well as an experiment in some new approaches to hosting OST in particular using virtually tools. These include include: · MaestroConference’s new social webinar feature that allows you to see names and thumbnail pictures of the other people in your breakout group · A “law of two feet” process that will let you move around the call as you desire · The Hackpad platform during the call for the Marketplace and collaborative note taking With all these bells and whistles, there may be a bump in the road or two. We also realize that two hours is not enough time to get the full OST magic flowing, but longer iterations can come after we get the basic process kinks worked out. So please come prepared to play and to support our collective learning. It will all be “ <http://www.groupworksdeck.org/patterns/All_Grist_for_the_Mill> Grist for the Mill!” If you are not already registered, please consider joining us, and feel free to invite others you believe have something to contribute to the dialogue and would like to support innovation in the field. Thus far, we are heavy on practitioners (which is great!) and it would be also nice to get some greater diversity into the mix—perhaps some folks who are experienced participants in dialogic engagements, but not necessarily hosts or facilitators. You are invited… What: A free two-hour conversation/experiment on the general question “what is possible now in the realm of “online” dialogue and deliberation?” The conversation will also serve as a test of new tools and techniques that might be used to host virtual Open Space Technology engagements of any length. When: Wednesday, December 19th from 1-3pm Eastern/10am-12pm Pacific/6-8pm GMT Where: On your phone, or via Skype (if you have a strong internet connection), using the MaestroConference platform--please register in advance if possible <http://myaccount.maestroconference.com/conference/register/56E8FSQ9BHHJQKL7> using this link. Who: People with an interest in online dialogue and deliberation in general, and/or Open Space Technology in particular. Please feel free to pass this invitation on to anyone you think might be interested. We are planning for a minimum of twenty and maximum of one hundred participants. Why: 1) to provide a venue for open conversation on all aspects of virtual dialogue and deliberation as a gift to the dialogue and deliberation community of practice and 2) to experiment with tools and techniques for virtual Open Space Technology that might be used as a component of the upcoming World Open Space on Open Space (WOSonOS) gathering in St. Petersberg, FL from May 16-19 [note that we recognize that OST traditionally requires more time than this as a rule--our intention is to experiment with a set of protocols that can be used to host much longer engagements as well]. This engagement is being produced by Ben Roberts, in collaboration with Suzanne Daigle, Elaine Hansen, Eric Hansen and Michael Herman, along with the generous support of MaestroConference. Over the next few months, it is hoped that a number of such experiments will be conducted by various self-organized groups, using different platforms and approaches, so that we will have a solid set of options for offering virtual participation in WOSonOS 2013, as well as for anyone who wishes to convene OST virtually for their own purposes.
