I'm pretty sure that it's only searching for data residing on your device 
via the regional map your using. I say that because when I add a GPX 
waypoint using the quick action button, the behavior seems the same whether 
I'm in airplane mode or not.  Are you seeing the same thing?  

But yeah, it doesn't really search for addresses when you're on a trail.  
I'm getting labels like "Near Bear Valley, Petaluma", which isn't 
particularly useful and would require further editing to be meaningful.  
The long-press method takes more time, but it does present the edit screen 
as part of the process.
