But this is not true for todays cars. Its consumption per km and travel speed. Yes - with the current downsizing of motors you get much lower fuel consumption on partial load e.g. the citys. But driving on the motorway you'll consume the same amount of fuel than having a 6 cylinder 3,5l engine.
