I'm no expert but it seems like nothing has changed other than that a lot of people were killed and both sides are even more polarized. Hamas is still in power and will continue to launch 'missiles' which won't be terribly destructive. Israel will continue to impose a blockade which will continue to be frustrated by tunneling. Same shit, different day. I think the people who speculated that this was all about domestic Israeli politics have gained credibility but I don't get any sense of whether that actually worked. Did Olmert benefit politically?
