I'm interested in what you write below, but I'm more curious about why it is so quickly labelled "silly" ?

The Iraq war was a mistake. What do you do when you make mistakes?

Is political apology somehow impossible?

German President Apologizes for Holocaust
Visiting German President Johannes Rau Wednesday apologized for the Holocaust during which six million Jews perished, saying it is important to teach the younger generation about the past.

"I am asking for forgiveness for what Germans have done, for myself and my generation, for the sake of our children and grandchildren, whose future I would like to see alongside the children of Israel, "Rau said while addressing the Israeli Knesset, the parliament.

I thought the real mistake Obama made was the statement "we are ready
to lead once more." I simply don't see how any nation can assume the
mantle of 'world leader', how that could be executed successfully, or
even how the nations of the world could arrive at any consensus as to
what the phrase means.

There are some areas where the US is clearly behind many other
countries in the developed world. These include health care, education
and nutrition. Crime control and intellectual property law are also
areas where the US needs to do some catch up. In these areas the
rational course of action for the US is to follow.
