It's a trite truism but truisms are nonetheless true. I think the core fear is "if there weren't sanctions against gay marriage either I or my spouse would end our marriage and marry someone of the same gender". Alcoholics were famously supporters of prohibition and people who are uncomfortable with their own sexuality seem to be the most committed to fighting gay marriage. I'm sure the majorities who vote for gay marriage bans are simply social conservatives who oppose any change in accepted norms. But way to many of the leaders of the anti-gay movement, both political and religious, have turned out to fall outside the boundaries of conventional heterosexuality. And gay marriage can only be seen as a threat to straight marriage by those who, on some level, find it attractive. -- A young idea is a beautiful and a fragile thing. Attack people, not ideas. _______________________________________________ OSX-Nutters mailing list | [email protected] http://lists.tit-wank.com/mailman/listinfo/osx-nutters List hosted at http://cat5.org/
