I'm still watching it, and I probably will continue to do so.
But it doesn't feel like a Joss show at all. For a start, it
is not at all funny, his trademark wit (which made many early Buffhy
episodes with really mediocre and predictable plots actually worth
watching) is pretty much entirely absent.
And the whole 'no consistent personality for the lead
character' is a terrible premise on which to build a show. You could
compensate by making the co-stars interesting and sympathetic, but
that doesn't seem to be happening at all.
The problem is, instead of giving us the new Joss show, we
got the new Alias. Attractive female star takes on new role and gets
to play dress-ups each week? Sure. Ongoing mystery plots to keep us
interesting, with initially the tesion of two separate worlds that we
know will inevitably meet? Yep. Each show being basically built
around a separate set piece plot with plenty of action in it, with
lots of hints to ongoing mysteries around it? Yep. Like Alias, it
will probably be watchable, at least until we realise we stopped
caring about the ongoing plot.
But Alias wasn't a Joss show, and the things we liked about
Joss shows are absent. No wit and humour. No likeable ensemble cast
vibe, and none of those nice little character moments that make us
like the characters. Just a bunch of not particularly likable people
doing mysterious things in a serious way.
Apparently, its ratings are tanking. Chances are very good it
will be gone soon. I hope they actually reveal enough of the plot to
be satisfying before it gets cancelled.
        Cheers
                Dave
