Well, it's more than 'whatever' when you spend a good hour or so
crafting a long email reply and it's suddenly gone poof into the
ether. Nothing in drafts, send. No where, it's just gone.

Yep, that's me as well.

The frustrating thing is that when it is behaving, it's wonderful;
fast and reactive, loads up mailboxes in a blink or less and the
activity window is usually full, empty, or has two lines that appear
for a second. If I see things in the activity window where 4 or 5
lines appear and stay for a while, I know it's going south. Or if I
see "Saving Draft -- Copying message" for more than 10 seconds, I am
likely screwed. And this is happening more and more with messages
taking many minutes to send 2K of text or a mailbox with no new
messages stuck on 'syncing' or the aforementioned 'Exiting idle
state'. I'm trying to get into the habit of 'saving as draft' any
message I spend more than a few seconds on.

Can't speak to the webmail, I almost never use it.

Your letters they all say that you're beside me now. Then why do I
        feel alone? I'm standing on a ledge and your fine spider web Is
        fastening my ankle to a stone.
