There are a few companies that will send you a sim card for use on the continent. I can't vouch for them, as my English one works fine (if slightly more expensively) when abroad.
As for getting a phone, get it before you go out there. You could always get a nokia phone and have conversations with the locals about how good it is. This will save you from having conversations about how expensive beer is in Finland (very) and why salmon is in nearly every meal you can get out there.
