The only experience I have had in this area is with women and pelvic pain
with intercourse. I do try to help them decrease the pain with intercourse
with education. I teach them relaxation techniques, massage, to use
lubrication, issue vaginal dilators, etc. Sometimes I might try ultrasound
and I also show them how to use heat or ice in the home. What I teach
depends on what is causing the pain. I work in a VA hospital so
reimbursement is not an issue. I had extra training in this area when I
became involved in treating urinary incontinence.

With the male SCI patients, they are seen by someone who specializes in this
area and they often need to take a shot to help with the process. I do not
intervene for them.

For people with back pain, we have always just educated in positions that
decrease back pain.
