I have a few ideas I have used. These are just common sense from my own experience, not sure if an "expert" in low vision would agree.
1. Use hook stick on velcro to mark 1, 2, 3 minutes on Microwave dial.
2. Practice estimating a cup of water in the same plastic bowl. This is useful for microwave food prep.
3. I got this one from observing my client - put things away in the same place each time. I noticed that my client, without vision, could find scissors, measuring cups, and favorite cooking pot quicker than I can in my kitchen with vision -- she puts them away neatly in the same place each time.
.
4 Use scissors, not a knife to open packages. Less tendency to "get away" from you. when the packaging opens.
5 Practice turning the dial on electric skillet to about 300 degrees, about 400 degrees, my client was able to learn to get these within 10 degrees.
6 Buy frozen chopped onion to avoid the chopping task. Also frozen seasoning mix with chopped onion, green and red pepper.
7. Use barbecue mitts to place and remove pans from oven. These protect arms as well as hands in case you get close to a rack or door.
