You know what it sounds like is happening is, some of the list members may
have the Bagel virus. It spoofs people's email addresses and sends out
emails that probably look like they come from the list. We're having the
same problem with some of the AOTA lists. Also, it seems AOL has gone
overboard with the anti-spam campaign and many people are finding that email
from their lists goes to the junk mail folder instead. You would think your
web host company would understand that this has been a problem.

Subject: [OTnow] !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Reporting of OTnow to AOL as
aSPAMMER - PLEASEREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello:

Today, I received very disturbing news that my web host company (Lunarpages)
that carries the OTnow list is considering terminating my account. The
reason is because they received notice from AOL that my account is being
used for spam. Apparently, one of more OTnow list members has informed AOL
that OTnow.com is spamming.

Here are several excerpts from my web provider regarding this incident:

> sent using our servers. The email was reported by the recipient as
spam.
> Lunarpages does not have the authority to override a
> determination of spam. Lunarpages is not notified who reported the email
as spam.

Currently, there are approximately 90 AOL addresses in the OTnow list.
To lose ALL 90 members because one or more person's is reporting spam would
be terrible. But, rather than lose the entire list serve (at least for the
time
being) I will probably remove the AOL addresses.

############################################################################
################## HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO #################################
############################################################################

First, IF spam does come across the OTnow list, it is very rare and it does
NOT originate with the list. Most times it occurs because a list member has
a virus that is using their address book to send spam. And since the OTnow
list address is in their address book and they are list members, the virus
is able to effectively spam the list. But I, as the OTnow list owner, HATE
spam and have never and will never send spam.

Second, should a spam message be received across the OTnow list, do NOT (I
repeat, NOT) notify AOL, or another ISP. The best thing to do is simply
ignore the message and delete it.

Thirdly, if you don't want to be a list member, please leave. If you can't
figure out how to leave, let me know and I will remove you!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++ HERE'S WHAT I WILL DO
++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Thirdly, I don't want to moderate list messages but I guess that's what I
need to do. So, until further notice, the OTnow list is a fully moderated
list. Every message posted to the list will require approval of the list
owner. (YUCK)

Ron
