Hello Charles and and Luca,

Hello Jason.
I'd like to echo Charles' sentiment. I'd also add that some of the
documentation seems to be outright misleading if not technically
incorrect.

I agree. One begins to wonder if that is intentional.
Then, there's all of the undocumented MAPI properties that Outlook
*requires*, plus the "optional" MAPI stuff that Outlook *requires*, etc.

Yes its quite frustrating and annoying.
One key issue is the difference between writing a general MAPI service
provider versus writing a MAPI service provider for use by Outlook... Huge
difference. All of the publicly available documentation is for general
MAPI service providers, not Outlook MAPI service providers. InsideMAPI is
a good start, but extremely outdated.

Yes I agree. And it seems to be quite difficult to get ahold of InsideMAPI in
the first place. And even once that is obtained it seems to not be the gold
mine that its made out to be.
I'll add that I've been a subscriber of this list for a long time, but am
finally posting after seeing a nice bit of activity lately.

Indeed. I am elated at all this activity. Everything is finally starting to come together
in the exchange/outlook replacement world. I about fell out of my chair when the activity
started on the list. Then some other stuff happened in other areas and I came across
several good resources and had people email me with some pointers/tips.
I'm the lead developer of the the MAPI toolkit at SourceXtreme, Inc.
Oh yes I believe we spoke on the phone some time ago. I discussed some things with you
and some possible contract work on openchange/otlkcon development.
 We
also have the start of a MAPI message store and MAPI transport provider
built using our MAPI toolkit.
Cool!! Having fun I see and not telling the rest of us. Tut tut I think I will have to tell your mommy
that your not sharing. :)
We haven't been working on it as fervently
the last few months,
Shame on you! :)
but would happily join efforts with this group.
Neat. The less work that is duplicated and the more minds that are on the problem the better. Open source
development in action.
 We
have no problems with GPL, LGPL, or dual-licensing.
Even better. This is great news. Any idea how soon the code can be released? (Can you tell I am itching to get some movement here? :) )
 We do prefer C++ over
straight C, but are willing to work with those who prefer straight C.

Perhaps a comprimise can be reached and straight C can be written at the low level and C++ wrappers/abstraction layer could be what you use/develop? Just an idea and I am sure others will have valuable input. Please speak up guys and gals.
We also have a separate IMAP library we would be willing to release under
the same licensing terms.

Interesting. Have you looked at http://openconnector.org/bclient/ ? I don't know if it does the same things your library does or not.
A bit about my background:
I have about 11 years Windows programming experience,
Excellent. A lot more then I have thats for sure :)
 mostly with C and
C++ writing GUI apps,
Neat. Using visual studio/c or another development environment or...?
 NT services,
Interesting. Any experience with IDL?
TCP/IP communication modules,
What exactly does that mean?
and some
device drivers (WinCE and some Windows and NT).
Neato. What kind of hardware if I may ask?
 I've done some work with
Simple MAPI and spent about 6 months working with Enhanced MAPI. I have
other experience not related to this project, but I'll leave that for
another time.

What you garden? :)
Is there any interest in help from myself or my company, SourceXtreme?
Yes there most certainly is.
 If
so, how can I help, or what would be the most helpful way my company could
contribute to this project?

Well. I can't speak for the other developers but I would say that the
release of the code you have been developing would be useful.
Regards,
Jason Nocks
