All XMPP servers deploy rate limiting. IMHO it's likely that you'll run into rate limiting by using the in-band bytestreams pattern (although you're not using IBB itself): http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0047.html Naturally, you can run your own XMPP server instead of depending on things like Google Talk (which might not offer XMPP forever) or some other public XMPP server. Which these days might be a good idea, depending on what your threat model is...
