It is not stupid. :) It is a bug in 0.5 Beta8 with Perl 5.0 (see 
http://bugs.otrs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54).  

Change the following in Kernel/Config.pm ~ line 539:

[...]
        push (@ISA, $Self->{SubConfigs}->{$_});
        $Self->$_;
[...]

to:
 
[...]
        push (@ISA, $Self->{SubConfigs}->{$_});
        $Self->$_()
[...]

and it will work.

PS: OTRS 1.0 RC1 is released (ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/misc/otrs/)! :)
