The debug output is in apache error log. To enable it, just open

    Kernel/System/Email/SMTP.pm

and insert in line 38 the following:

    $Self->{Debug} = 1000;

So it should look like that after the change:

    # debug
    $Self->{Debug} = $Param{Debug} || 0;
    $Self->{Debug} = 1000;
    $Self->{Debug} = 10;
    if ($Self->{Debug} > 2) {
[...]
