Hi Everyone,

Anyone know any good set-by-set online resources for setting up an OS X machine as a web/mail server? I pretty much need to know everything including physical requirements, software, what buttons to press.
I'd love to be able to use my fileserver to host my website, handle email and function as an FTP.

Thanks!

Scott

Hi Scott

Mailserver wise, get hold of a shareware called Postfix Enabler, it is absolutely brilliant. The guy who puts it out has lots of good reference material on his web site for other server uses. Website is very simple, drop your pages into the sites directory in your home folder, Apache is built into Mac OS. File server isn't too hard to set up either. Built in ftp client, or you can use samba or AppleTalk for an internal network. Activate web and file sharing through the sharing control panel.

If you want things accessible from the internet, you will need a fixed IP address, or else use dyndns or a similar service. These are well covered on the Postfix Enabler site http://www.roadstead.com/weblog/

Cheers
Henry
