Hi Pat

LiteOn is a brand name and you may well find that the drive is actually made
by Sony or Pioneer or ...

If you are lucky, then you may find that it works perfectly with the Apple
drivers that come with OS9. (Apparently most LiteOn DVD drives work well in
a Mac so maybe the CD's do as well.)

Clive is right. A relatively recent version of Toast (v5 or maybe even V4)
will write to and read from most anything.

However you may find that you can't boot from it, which may or may not be an
issue for you.

Another source of info is
<http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/drivedb/search.drivedb.lasso>
or
<http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/> and pull down the database tab.

Make sure that you set the new CD-RW to the same Master/Slave setting as the
one that you pull, then you will not have a conflict with any other device
on the same IDE bus.

A 'Shower of sparks' is not a possible outcome.

Peter
