Thanks for the info.
So far I've only done two iMacs, one a orange 333 MHz, and one an AV
Bondi blue with FireWire.
Both needed the 8 Gig partition, so milage may vary on models. I
don't know the speed of the AV FireWire model.
Presumably the installer tells you if a partition is required, but
it's a bit late if you haven't planned ahead..

400MHz iMac with built in USB (and maybe even Firewire), that
gotcha does not exist with this model. Have a few iMacs (nonDV as
well as DV) all 400MHZ models which happily have OSX (Jaguar and
Panther) installed on unpartitioned hard drives.
That gotcha only existed with non-native USB G3 and PowerMacs (and
maybe the Rev1 iMacs - unsure).
