Job title: Linux Architect Location: Detroit, MI Duration: 5+ years (very long term) Required skills: Extensive experience working with Linux system and program installation, compilation and configuration of Red Hat and SUSE; Previous programming or scripting experience Proficiency with BSD (e.g. NetBSD, OpenBSD); understanding of the administration of database servers such as SQL Server and Oracle, and secure web servers such as WebLogic and SunOne; Knowledge of Perl and CGI scripting; knowledge of standard backup infrastructures; System-level security procedures, familiarity with cryptography tools (e.g. secure shell, OpenSSL, IPSec); experience maintaining standard Internet services such as DNS, NFS, DHCP, Samba, printing (e.g. LPR, CUPS) and FTP service; Experience with troubleshooting hardware; Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff; Ability to work productively in teams; good problem solver. As new technologies emerge and impact our systems, this candidate is expected to learn these technologies very quickly with minimal support and guidance, and resolve any problems involved in integrating new technologies with our systems. *Detailed JD:* Candidate will be relied upon as the team’s subject matter expert for Linux. Candidate will be responsible for providing ongoing software installs, upgrades and maintenance. They will also assist in the development for various Linux applications in a large multi-server environment.
