This position supports Operations (Generation, Southern Nuclear, Southern
Power, and Transmission) and is part of a team of business analysts that
support the Operations and Nuclear business units. The business analyst is
responsible for building and maintaining strategic partnerships between IT
and the business partner, analyzing the expectations of the businesses to
achieve lower costs, maximum value, competitive advantage, and improving
customer satisfaction through the appropriate use of technology. The
Business Analyst anticipates business needs, provides support for the front
end of the Deliver Solutions process, and responds to new business requests
and helps move strategic technology initiatives from the planning stage
through governance and into the project implementation phase. Key services
provided by the Business Analyst in this process include clarifying and
documenting needs and business processes, requirements gathering, solution
identification, coordination with vendor management, documentation of
business cases, coordination with project management and engaging the
solution providers. The Business Analyst has a broad view of IT and the
business and is able to engage solution providers which may include the
application portfolio, infrastructure services, field operations and client
services, vendors, IT Security, Project Management Office, Supply Chain,
and more. The Business Analyst is responsible for the demand management
process and is a primary interface between the business units and IT. Other
responsibilities include bringing an understanding of "what is possible
with IT," and ensuring effective communication between business units and
IT. This position is located in Birmingham at the Inverness office.


*JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES*


   - Build and maintain strategic partnerships with Operations so as to
   apply knowledge of the business and appropriate technology for the purpose
   of streamlining business processes, reducing costs, and improving customer
   satisfaction.
   - Understand and articulate the mission, vision, goals, strategic and
   tactical initiatives of the business units; develop strategic technology
   plans with the business units on a company- or system-wide basis.
   - Understand and articulate the mission, vision, goals, strategic and
   tactical initiatives of IT.
   - The strategic direction of the specific business unit should be
   clearly understood and IT implications should be identified and anticipated.
   - Anticipate and communicate the business unit's technology needs to IT
   to ensure that technology priorities are established, prioritized, and
   driven by the business needs so as to maximize value of technology
   investments.
   - Communicate IT initiatives, technology updates, and issues to the
   business unit and represent the business unit's concerns/issues on these
   points.
   - Provide active support in the development, communication and
   implementation of IT strategic plans and initiatives.
   - Manage an account team of IT teammates and business unit management to
   ensure appropriate handling of business partner strategic and tactical
   needs.
   - Educate the business about IT products and services and perform
   education around technology opportunities.
   - Develop business cases which clearly articulate business requirements,
   options for potential solutions, financial benefit, appropriate use of
   technology, and value added for supported business unit.
   - Provide leadership and consulting for budgeting and billing of IT
   products and services to ensure a full understanding of technology costs
   within the business units.
   - Share best practices within business units, across business units,
   within Southern Company, and external companies.
   - Ensure that business unit understands the importance of common IT
   standards and the implications (including cost implications) of
   non-compliance.
   - Prioritize and manage competing business demands.
   - Manage business expectations for IT and communicate these to IT (e.g.,
   service levels, business continuity).
   - Through insight into business needs, anticipate and provide
   suggestions for innovative solutions and uses for emerging technologies to
   improve productivity and achieve business goals.


*EDUCATION*

   - BS or BA degree in Computer Science, Information Technology,
   Engineering or related field is required.


*JOB EXPERIENCE*

   - Experience as a Business Analyst or experience in Generation, E&CS,
   SNC, Transmission or IT business units preferred

   skills.
   - Strong organizational skills.
