You are right, there is no way to determine that from 1-wire information. But 
I use specific devices I designed myself, so *I* know it for my devices.

You have a point here. For replacement parts, it's really an advantage to have 
the ID data of the other chips onboard - this way, the host doesn't have to 
be updated when a device has been replaced.
