It works now. Using apt-get, I installed libusb-0.1-4 and libusb-dev. Then I went back to my owfs source and built it as before. Once I got a cable problem straightened out, it worked just fine. Thanks for all the help! Let me work it out again on a fresh install, and I'll give you my recipe.
