The menu never displayed. I see just text messages.

How does it not work, exactly? Is the menu never displayed? Does it
flash and instantly disappear? Or does it fail in some other way? This
is not clear from the build log you had provided, which IIRC could look
this way if you manually exited menuconfig without saving changes.
