Thanks for clarification. I tried contacting tu-berlin. They are under heavy load atm and put me into queue ;)

It depends on the usage pattern and on the setup you have.
You have to separate the file backend needs and the pure ressources
needed for sync clients, webinterface, caldav etc.
For the backend needs it depends mostly on what storage you give users
and how much they really use. This is probably best done using a
network file storage, which is mounted so you have 10-15tb on your
hands.

Then depending on the number of sync clients you have to beef up the
specs. Sync clients are ressource intensive for the server. As are
caldav, carddav syncs.

Their are no real specs for 10k users as it mostly depends on the
usage type. The demo.owncloud.org instance for example is not a huge
machine and handles 1k-2k users per day and a few thousand pageviews.
Not many sync clients or *dav syncs. And easily cachable.
You could try reaching out to the tu-berlin it team. They run one of
the bigger real production setups of owncloud. And probably can tell
you more about usage patterns and "best practices".

Cheers Michael

I was thinking about 4vcpu with 8-16gb ram vps.
Did anyone try or use jmeter with owncloud?

10,000 users? Lets imagine that each uses 1gb of storage. That is 10tb
of storage. I think that may be a little much for a VPS to handle.

For 10,000 users you are probably are going to need a good dedicated
server - this all depends on usage though - you would need to define
this much better.

Owncloud can definitely be resource intensive. You would probably be
best served by getting a small test group and testing out performance
and setup with them.

     Hi,

I am planning to install and run owncloud at work, so I am asking
about owncloud scalability. I am expecting up to 10k users total. I
was thinking about using VPS for it.
Can you provide your brief site setup and use case?

     Thanks in advance.
