Preet,

Hosted TFS comes in two forms at the moment:

1) Team Foundation Server 2010, hosted by a hosting partner. E.g.
http://DiscountASP.net/tfs, Full list:
http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2010-editions/team-foundation-server/hosting

a. This is the same released version of TFS that you get on MSDN, they
just run it for you.

b. You pay on a per user/per month basis. Because they are different
providers, some have more/less flexibility with what you can do based upon how
much you pay.

2) Visual Studio Team Foundation Service, hosted by Microsoft.
http://tfspreview.com/

a. This is the next version of TFS. It includes the new product backlog,
taskboard and other "team" features.

b. It's in an invitation-only "preview" phase at the moment, with a
best-effort SLA. I've been using it for some personal projects for a few months
now, and it works really well. (let me know off-list if you need an invite code)

c. It will be RTW at some point in the future. Pricing TBD.

d. It's running on the Windows Azure platform and uses SQL Azure + blobs
as it's data store.

e. Microsoft is investing heavily in it and has indicated that new
features will ship in the service before they ship for the on-premises version.

Subject: Hosted Source Control/Issue Tracking recommendations

Guys,

I've been asked to evaluate cloud hosted source control and issue tracking and
was wondering if you guys have any recommendations.

We're currently looking at:

  *   Hosted TFS
  *   Fogbuz/Kiln
I personally prefer a DVCS based solution as this really is the future but my
my colleagues and I are familiar with TFS so may be it's a get up and go
quickly solution for them
