I have noticed today that in my start menu a lot of menu shortcuts to common applications no longer work.
Things such as windows explorer and notepad just do not work from the start menu. If I check properties, these have in the path settings like %windir%. These do not appear to be valid any longer. This really pisses me off. I have no idea why these all of a sudden should no longer work. I have not made any changes that I am aware of that could impact on these settings. I have tried to check the values but in the system app in control panel I get [Window Title] %windir%\system32\systempropertiesadvanced.exe [Content] Windows cannot find '%windir%\system32\systempropertiesadvanced.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. [OK] Fortunately I have some folder shortcuts. I can navigate to the above application and check out the environmental variables. windir is set to c:\windows. For whatever reason %windir% is not being translated to its environmental setting of "C:\windows". I like windows 7 but some things really do not work that well and autodestruct at the worst possible moment. Can anyone tell why %windir% suddenly is incomprehensible to the OS whereas it was perfectly acceptable previously. How do you tell windows that it should start using %windir% again. Rebooting does not fix the problem.
