Anything JS is right out. Historically ... I thought ASP.NET MVC would be the "forms killer" when it came out, making the complex heavyweight forms pipeline easier, but it just replaced one kind of complexity with a brand new type of complexity. The first non-trivial site I wrote in MVC left me angry and bewildered by the vast number of conventions that you have to discover and follow, and the quantity of files and folders. I decided to use the old forms this time because of the server-side controls like TreeView, DataGrid, and the simple state management. I haven't written any significant MVC for a few years, and I've forgotten most of the conventions (which hints at a different type of complexity problem). So it was a personal productivity choice. I should mention that I like MVC WebApi and use it a lot (no UI is involved of course). The whole "web" still effing sucks. *Greg K*
