The birth centres are not dead in the water.  The Illawarra Area Health Service is not known for its progressive stance towards women, let alone its staff. The birth centre @ Wollongong Hospital ceased to exist about 6 years ago.  We were told that in the interests of safety and economy  ........   the list goes on adnauseum, that a combination of the bc and the labour ward was in the best interests of the women and the wider community  .....etc etc.   Ha!

At the time we were not acknowledged as CNS but only as a RN Midwife.   Even though the role was one of a CNS or above.

I am happy to say that I no longer work for that progressive employer  !!!!!!!!!!!!!   Judy

When I worked in the Birth Centre @Bulli and Wollongong, there was no distinction between our pay rates there and in the reg labour suite  Judy
