Megan,

Having had four miscarriages, and being a positive blood group, nature does cope with these things well. When I had my first mis/c after trying for 18months to even fall pregnant, I was a pretty stressed and ended up seeing an ob/gyn (for my first and hopefully last time ever) who might I say was a really pleasant chap - and pretty good on non-intervention. He told me that he wouldn't consider doing a D&C until 10/40 or later gestation; or if there was continued vaginal loss, infection etc. The advice was pretty much - go home, rest, take some iron tablets, and I was surprised that he told me that to bleed/spot for weeks afterwards was quite OK as long as no offensive discharge/ fever etc. This was 5 years ago. Needless to say, for the next three mis/c's I just took a sickie and stayed at home!!

What are peoples thoughts on having a curette after a miscarriage?
I didn't involve the medico's, just my midwife so we just let nature take
its course. However many I hear who go to hospital, have one as recommended.
I guess there are medical indications for having one, but is it just a
routine procedure?

Cheers
Megan
