As others have said, my experience has been that most women are active at sometime and then settle down into a kneeling position, very rarely lying for more that a few minutes at a time.  However, I have had several women feel much better lying down for most of the labour.  I have seen this more often in multips whose other births were in a hospital... sort of a learned comfort zone.  The first birth experience seems to imprint on women's bodies.  That is why I disagree with the advice of "have the first birth in hospital and then have homebirths after that if it goes alright".  MM

Perhaps it was the position that this woman felt most comfortable in. It certainly seems that she looked comfortable and secure in her place. I loved that clip for what it was.
