I have just started reading this thread and, of course , I may well have missed the point and/or repeated what somebody else has said BUT are you proposing something like the existing birthcentres chat group ,which is a yahoo group and UK based ? Obviously many of the concerns /problems/successes are the same as here . Generally it is a group for just the kind of discussion that you are proposing and is a great source of info for midwives and consumers alike .

You might like to have a look at this before you set up another group ............just a thought

Subject: RE: [ozmidwifery] proposed list & n'letter for caseload midwives

I think some more misunderstandings are present in this topic; please allow me to clarify the purpose behind what MC wants to do and why:

The list I was proposing was going to be done for the MC with the intentions of it to be a tool for which we as consumers and midwives can be up to date with what is being offered and material/evidence to demand that more services be offered and to show units in similar situations what others have been able to accomplish.  The list was not going to be done just for consumer reference (although it would be beneficial for consumers to now what is out there too).

The idea is to share information with others how they went about getting their model up and running: a tool for administrators; motivation and inspiration for midwives; and the drive for consumers to keep offering their volunteer time to push for maternity reform.  MC feel that the information would be most beneficial for those who are sheltered from what is gong on, to expose them to possibilities and successful models.  Hence, it would be good for all midwives to access this information, rather than those who are already working so hard for change.  The need for women and midwives to be aware of what ca be done is imperative.

That does not mean it can not be a collaboration of efforts and information sharing between everyone.  We are all working together for the common goal, there is just so much hesitation from midwives and blatant ignorance of options from women and this needs to be rectified before we can find the unity we need to make midwifery a major player in birthing options and rights.

Does this make sense?

Cheers
