Separate Farms does complicate things, your event receiver idea to push the
content to the Internet site is a good a solution as any other I can think
of.
Although because the internet site is in a separate farm you may need to
make use of Web Services or even RPC (
http://geek.hubkey.com/2007/12/move-sharepoint-document-library-files.html)<http://geek.hubkey.com/2007/12/move-sharepoint-document-library-files.html>
on
the destination server to copy the page across as you can't get the
SharePoint context between discretely separate farms.

Whatever you do will involve some trial and error and there are many ways
you can do this - let us know what ends up working for you in the end as
this sort of syndication seems to be requested quite often. Would be great
if this was already built in would be a great value-add justification to
'run your intranet/extranet/internet all on SharePoint' if they all talked
together across farms out of the box for content syndication, fingers
crossed for VNext.
