We're been using DovAve for around 6 months here. The restore is pretty
easy. It allows you to restore over an existing site or to a completely
new site. The only bug in it I found though is when you're doing a
backup it locks the site up so you can't edit it. IF the backup fails
however, it doesn't unlock it. So if backup fails overnight, you have
to manually go to the server and unlock the site. The work around for
this though was a scheduled task I put on the server to unlock the site
every morning at 6am in case the backup failed and no one was in to
manually unlock it.

I've been using DocAve at a client now for the last few days, and I have
found the backup solutions to be quite good, and they offer a farm level
backup facility - however, I have not yet tested the restore features
(only backup + migration). It lets you restore at any level from a
backup set, which is quite nice - and it has a scheduler, etc - all
seems to be pretty easy to set up and use. I'd HIGHLY recommend testing
the restore features before purchasing it though....the 'capture' side
of docave seems to be a lot better than the 'publish'.

Good to hear DPM is getting a good wrap.

We used Data Protection Manager, and really happy with it.

The one of the advantages is fine-grained level of restore. You can find
and restore deleted sites and documents

Subject: Backup/Restore

Hi All,

Just wondering if anybody is aware of backup software that will allow
you to backup a whole sharepoint site/web app and allow for restore of
sites within that collection.

Example:

We have a site called "Intranet" (http://intranet.com
<http://intranet.com/> ). Within this web app there is a site called
"Collaboration" (http://intranet.com/collaboration).

Is it possible to restore from backup only the "Collaboration" site?
Hence we don't wont to override all other data within the extranet with
old data from backup.

We are currently using Backup Exec to backup the sql database. I am
aware of the sharepoint add-on for the software but am unsure if it will
do whats required.

Any experiences, thoughts or suggestions?

Regards,

Trent
