Check the association files (that description is available there) the
ReadItem type fields in source BCS Entity.

You need to have "Description" field to be available in ReadItem and in
association

Your description and code stored in the same list, and you just want to use
different field, right?

Thank you very much Michael, I can manage to create association fields that
when you add/edit the item, you can pick up from another list, but in the
view can you display description instead of code from another list?

There is a bug, that you cannot change the Key field once BCS Entity
created.

You need to delete entity and recreated it again.

However, the "lookup" fields visibility depends on Association fields you
have ticked. Check your source and associations fields

Hi Michael,

I just used desinger to do that, look like once you create the external
content type you cannot change the field to "Show in Picker"

What is the BSC configuration? You need to tick "Show in Picker" item in BCS
Entity (when design in SharePoint Designer) and all related fields should be
visible.

Hi Guys,

I am trying to use BCS to a sql database. Just wonder if I have a product
group table and product table. In the product table, there is group code
reference to the product group item. Could I create an external list for
product but when they edit/add item, they can choose the group description
rather than code. Is it out of box or I need to write in code? Anyone has
link to the tutorials?

cheers

Ken
