Paul, We have some documentation from developers. I am pretty sure from what I can see in the project files in VS2010 and solution store all customisation were deployed via solutions.
I think I will just have to do a bit of reading/research as my VS2010 skills are a bit lacking (have not dabbled for a few years now) .... as we need to make some changes to web forms and other SharePoint customisations. Thank you for your advice. I think I am on the right track now and hopefully should be able to get something up and running next week. Hi Peter, That's a pretty big question that can't be answered without knowing more about your environment. Generally speaking you would recreate the web apps in your dev/stage farm first. Don't create any site collections. You should then be able to perform a backup/restore from your prod environment. If the apps are small enough I'd use stsadm over Backup Exec because the latter piece of sh!te. :) Out-of-place backups are not its forte. Do an stsadm backup of each top level site and then restore these to the respective web apps. OR, if you've got dozens of site collections, you may want to perform an application or database level backup/restore. It all comes down to size and numbers. Then, assuming ALL your customisations were deployed via solution files, you would deploy them all accordingly. Refer to your prod farm's solution store to see which solutions were deployed where. Hopefully your 3rd party dev provided some kind of doco for their work. Hello all, Just need some general guidance and advice. We are currently using SharePoint 2010 for our external website and asp.net forms to submit applications/enquiries to our new intranet site (which is only partly implemented) - this work was done by external consultants. I really need some help now in setting up our own development and integration/testing server. I have all the visual studio project files supplied by the constultants. What I need to know is how to best replicate our production setup on the Integration testing server. What we have now is an authoring site which is on our intranet that deploys to our website which is a VM. We also have the enquiry management and course enquiry sites on our intranet (the asp.net form submits to these sites). What I want to setup is a development box, an integration/testing server to trial changes before deployment to our intranet/authoring site. I have not coded seriously for a long time so need some direction/resource in using VS2010 and setting up the development box - and also need some direction in replicating our current setup. We are running BACKUP EXEC Can I just use a backup of our existing production environment to restore to the integration/testing server. Any help or Direction is appreciated Peter Milliner SharePoint (BRITNET) www.bendigotafe.edu.au<http://www.bendigotafe.edu.au>
