I can get this to happen in IE8 & IE7 in IETester. Interestingly, if I disable
JavaScript it continues to prompt, but if I disable images (JS enabled) it no
longer prompts for credentials.

Wish I had more time to investigate tonight, looks like a tricky one...

Callum

We still use IE8 here in the office, and I can confirm that it prompts for
credentials with compatibility mode enabled and disabled.

Two things to try - in IE8, make sure you are not running in compatibility
mode, and if it is, try disable intranet mode for the site.

Ishai,

I have checked all permissions (and the site works on all browser with anon
access except IE8) and the only
401 I can find using fiddler is that it is trying to access
http://www.bendigotafe.edu.au/pages/ the actual directory(library) itself and
a 401 is expected. I just don't know why it is trying to access and why it
works on other browsers.

Regards
Peter

Peter,
Fiddler will show which specific files in a request generate 401 - which I am
guessing will be either the jquery js file, or the images - depending on where
the rotator package deployes them to, you will have to make sure the location
is available for anon users.

Subject: Browser - news rotator web part issue

Hello all,

I am having problems with our website and have tried all options and I now
getting pressure from above to fix.

We recently updated our look and feel
www.bendigotafe.edu.au<http://www.bendigotafe.edu.au> and incorporated a news
rotator purchased from FIREARROW
http://firearrowsoft.com/product_news_rotator.php . Everything seemed to be
running fine until we started getting complaints that some users where getting
prompted for credentials when accessing home page - it loads correctly after
clicking cancel.

After investigating I narrowed it down to only IE8 browsers asking for
credentials - all other browsers work fine.
I also narrowed it down to the homepage and subsequently the news rotator -
when it is removed login is not required and when put back on problems comes
back.

Fiddler2 shows a 401 on pages library when home page is loaded using IE8

I contacted company who sold us the news rotator and they informed me that it's
not their rotator causing this but it must have something to do with my setup
of anonymous access to website but I have already checked and it is all correct.

Any help is appreciated (maybe just to confirm that it must be something in
rotator web part)

Thankyou
