Hi Ian,
Not sure if it rises to mention in your blog posting, but the move to
httpclient4 for file retrieval [1] should be helpful to Eclipse
users...for faster, more reliable downloads...as well as better proxy
handling, etc.

parent poms (so they point to version 4.4) [2].
