This depends somewhat on where the backup is going to run from. If you run a backup client from within the VM then most of them should work just fine (including Tahoe), but Tahoe is a particularly bad choice if you want to backup your VM disk image from the host server; it does not support block-level backup so every time you flip a bit in the disk image the entire image needs to be uploaded again. If you are hooked into the unpacking engine you can push and pull individual segments to a storage grid, but if you are going to go this far then as a practical matter you might also want to consider hooking into a more battle-tested cluster filesystem for improved i/o.
