Dear P2P-hackers subscribers, The IPOP project is proud to announce the launch of its new code base and Web site: http://ipop-project.org
As an open-source user-centric software virtual network, IPOP allows end users to define and create their own virtual private networks (VPNs) without complex configurations. IPOP virtual networks provide end-to-end IP tunneling over peer-to-peer links; one example of an IPOP virtual network is the SocialVPN, which connects devices of friends over secure VPN links. It uses Google's libjingle library to create “TinCan” IP tunnel links, leverages the XMPP protocol for peer discovery, notification and certificate exchange, uses STUN/TURN protocols for NAT traversal, exposes link and overlay management in a flexible manner through a control API, and supports both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols to create various software-defined VPN overlays. The project is focused on the mission to provide researchers and developers in diverse areas with an extensible platform for virtual private networking. Currently the software provides a core framework of managing IP tunnels; there are several P2P features yet to be added (including overlay topology/routing, P2P XMPP messaging), and contributions from the P2P community are most welcome to bring exciting new ideas and functionality to the software.
