Of course, I'm talking about the only count that matters -- developer time to implement ;-)
Ah, THAT one. Okay, agreed. Man... you almost gave me a heart attak when I read up to "C is about five times as slow as..." part. :) On the other hand, I'm starting to seriously doubt lately that developer time to implement should have any weight relative to ease of maintenance afterwards.
I have observed that projects in visual basic and python are usually 99% complete in far less time than C, but then their install never gets quite finished.
If you are writing something that runs on one website, then of course the install is not an issue, and an interpreted high level language has overwhelming advantages.
Though sometimes the day comes when you want to move your code base to a slightly different environment, and find you cannot.
