Hi all,

Hope you are all doing fine

I'm hoping to start a discussion with others who are using Packetfence in
conjunction with Unifi Access Points.

I'm currently facing an issue with the newer versions of the Unifi
controller software. It appears that the CoA (Change of Authorization)
option has been removed and is now only available when using WPA2
Enterprise.

Our current setup involves using Packetfence on WPA2-only networks with MAC
authentication and RADIUS-assigned VLANs. We have a BYOD-style network
where users connect, and if their MAC address isn't registered, they are
directed to PF captive portal. After registering via Google LDAP, they are
assigned a VLAN based on their Google group membership. This system has
been working very well for us.

The problem arises because I can no longer update my Unifi controllers. The
CoA option, which is essential for us to change authorization after a user
registers on the portal, is now restricted to WPA2 Enterprise.

It seems to me that CoA functionality shouldn't be tied to the wireless
security type. I've tried to raise this on the Unifi forums, but it seems I
might be the only one experiencing this issue. I understand that Unifi
likely won't alter their software for a single user.

I'm wondering if my understanding is correct – should CoA not be dependent
on the wireless security type? Has anyone else encountered this same
problem?

I did experiment with manually adding CoA configurations to text files on
the Unifi controller, but I'm concerned this isn't a sustainable solution
as it's not the official management method for Unifi access points.

Thanks for any insights you might have.

Enrique
