What I did was register a bunch of devices (that had already been
detected) and put them into categories en masse by directly editing the
database tables using MySQL Workbench (http://wb.mysql.com/) and
creating a connector to the packetfence DB. You can have PF detecting
all the nodes on your network that use DHCP prior to configuring any
rules about what you intend to do with them so that is what I did in my
case. It only takes a few days to get most of the nodes detected and you
have an up-to-date list of what is actually getting switched on.

Here is an example of the query that I used to give a registration time
so it wouldn't be blank after running the registration query.

EDIT `pf`.`node`;update pf.node set pf.node.regdate= '2010-01-01
00:00:01' where status= 'reg' and regdate= '0000-00-00 00:00:00'

Once you have the tables in front of you it will become more obvious
what you can do to speed things up in your case.

Subject: [Packetfence-users] Importing Lists of Devices into PacketFence

Rather than trying to "reinvent the wheel" I thought I'd just ask to see
if any of you folks have already created tools to do "bulk imports" into
PacketFence. Ideally, this would be something that a reasonably adept
helpdesk kind of person could make use of and would be used for things
like per-populating the DB with known or new devices. It doesn't hurt
to ask!
