So, I upgraded to 4.0.2, and am still having the issue. Now the error
reads: WARN: No role specified or found for pid <username>. This seems to
come from line 1102 in node.pm, in the funciton is_max_nodes_reached. It
looks like $category or $category_id are empty variables, which results in
it falling back to assume maximum number of nodes has been reached.

What's somewhat interesting is that when I look the MAC address of the
device I am trying to register up in the DB, it has the default role...
